Bastille Wild World New Album 2016 First Impressions
Hello! I’m coming to you with a little bit of a different post than my usual and I have a very good reason for that. Bastille released their second studio album after THREE whole years yesterday. I've been listening to it non-stop for the entire day and I thought I needed to talk about it. It has been such a long wait. If you ask me the cheesy question – “Who are the top 5 bands you’d like to see live?” Bastille will make that list of mine. I’ve been obsessed with them ever since I heard their first album.

I discovered them on Tumblr in 2013 when their first album had just come out. People on tumblr have really good taste in music and I used to frequently browse for my indie music fix and always found some great recommendations that I listen to till this day. The first song I listened to was “Flaws” and I was in love. Then I went onto hearing one of their most popular songs “Pompeii” which was the one played on the radio loads and remixed with a lot of edm mixes. The song that made them "popular" all over the world.

Now onto their new album.. I love Dan Smith’s voice. It is hauntingly good. But this band’s success is also because of the music they create collectively. They are very relevant today with their electronic beats but still staying true to their indie pop beginning. They are creative with every song on this 19 track album and that starts from the titles down to the lyrics. I liked the poetic bits in between - the “dialogues” giving it a film like effect (a lot like Lana Del Rey’s style).

They have a knack for ballads and they don’t disappoint. They explore various topics with their honest lyrics that are controversial and some more personal. The album starts out with “Good Grief” which is very reminiscent of their style in the first album but as we progress through the tracklist, they’ve definitely evolved into much more. “Currents” and “Send Them Off!” are probably my favourites from the album. This one has a great mix of soulful numbers like “Two Evils” and ones like “Send them off” that will make you want to sway to the sound of “Set me free from my jealousy. Won’t you exorcise my mind?”

Here's an itunes link to their album : Wild World (Complete Edition)

  14. I never would have thought to go on Tumblr for music recommendations! I've heard some of their songs before, but I haven't listened to their latest stuff. I love Lana Del Rey's style with the dialogue and such that makes it more than just a song. I will definitely have to check this out!
